Happiness is something everyone feels, whether you agree or not it’s true. For some happiness is money but for others it’s family. To me, music is my happiness. Music has saved me from so many things. That sounds dumb, right? How could a beat and lyrics ever make someone happy? But to me, the beat and lyrics are so much more. I struggle with depression, terrible I know right? But when I listen to music the world fades away. I worry about my grades and being good enough for everyone and it’s so stressful having all of that on my plate.
The struggle to get out of bed in the mornings drowns me, but when I listen to music I don’t have a care in the world. Those beats and lyrics can be so relatable, listening to the artist express themselves feeling the way they feel makes me happy. Take the famous artist Juice WRLD for example, he sadly passed away in late 2019, but his music inspires so many people and also helps so many people get through things. Take his song, “Sometimes” into consideration. This song expresses how bad the world affects you and how he thinks the world isn’t the greatest. He hurts and struggles with depression just as I.
In the song he says and I quote, “My mind sometimes gets dark and wild, my mind sometimes… I don’t wan’ be bothered inhale, exhale, breathing just got a little harder.” I relate to this and it makes me happy knowing I’m not the only one that feels like this. Listening to the beat adds so much more intensity and feeling to the song, making you feel the way he feels. Now for some music doesn’t mean much to them, it’s just something to listen to in the car while driving to work.
I understand that music isn’t for everyone and that’s okay. It’s normal to not like things. But for me, I have such a strong emotional attachment to music. I can’t live without it, in school, on the bus, in the car, at home, anywhere you can think of. I listen to music, it keeps my mind off the bad and helps me focus on the task at hand. On the other hand, music doesn’t have to have lyrics to be a masterpiece. Piano per se has more of a soft sound to it so its good for sleep and relaxation. But drums have more of an upbeat tempo to get people going.
The different instruments can affect one’s mood just as lyrics can. Music is my happiness and I think a lot of people can relate to it. Either its lyrics or no lyrics can brighten anyone’s day. Try it out, listen to that one song and actually listen to the lyrics, it just might put a smile on your face.
Conclusion
Each of us has many different ways of defining what happiness means to us and that’s fantastic! Each day strive to soak in all the happiness that we can. Music is my daughter’s happiness and it is mine as well! We feel the music throughout our bodies and resonate with energy!
What does happiness mean to you?
